For Today....

I have a few plans.....Hopefully I will get everything done....

It has turned off cold today....But  what a beautiful day yesterday....I moved mountains of work yesterday....including putting a piece of tin on the top of Clayton's shed building.... Hopefully it will keep out the rain and snow....I am putting a tin roof on the old well house....The last one is rotting to stays...I think it is the original...If so it has been on 44 years... I have almost all of it off...

Gilbert killed a buck yesterday...He said his deer meat does not taste gamy....So I told him I wanted 2 gallon zip lock bags of stew meat.....He said , "Oh, so you are wanting enough to winter on!." I told him..YES....When he brings it I will divide it into about 1 pound bags and freeze.... for  stew...

I also thankfully got a turkey breast yesterday....from you know who....I dived it into 4 quart bags...I am cooking some this morning and taking old man Marr lunch...

Betty...I used your tools yesterday...rake and shovel....Thanks so much...I love them...Today I have brought all of those dishes into the house....I have the hot water heater turned on and I am washing them....at least I intend to....I also have a board and tree limb picked out for a swing...plus I have wood for a ladder to attach to Pat's old tree....Hannah is excited...

I hear the birds outside...I guess I need a bird feeder...I have cracked corn for the horse....Oh he is fat and pretty..

Oh I don't know Betty...those dishes may have to wait...It does not look so cold outside...I want to put the forks on the tractor and haul all of these rail road ties off that I was able to knock loose from the ground yesterday...

They are saying...40% chance of snow Saturday....

How did I live to be so old...

I never thought I would live to be this age....

Yesterday turned out to be  a pretty day...and once I got started, at noon, I did quiet a bit of work. I picked up piles to wood and sticks in the pasture.  I added them to the brush pile that needs to be burned again. Yes, I know that sounds stupid but George has the pasture bush hogged down and I can see all sorts of limbs from Clayton's porch. Most of them were once in the yard.

Speaking of Clayton, I made some good cornbread this morning and some great ham and beans. I cooked up a pumpkin and pureed it up and froze it in bags. I used some and made Erin's Cinderella cake...I think it will taste like carrot cake...but not for sure since it is still cooking. I did not have a bunt pan so I used my angel food pan....It will cook the same, just not as pretty....I also made Robert a chocolate cake. Fog is covering all of my windows since the oven has been on all morning....

BTW Mike Miller (I went to school with him) died in a car crash last night.  He worked at Tanners hardware for years.  I had seen his signs in town, he was running for some office.

I am picking Emmie and Sam up after school today. She needs groceries from WalMart.

If I were still living in AZ and Brother Clayton was still alive I would have called him a few days ago just to rub in how cold it was here in Arkansas. He would have told me the weather was cold. He hated the cold. He would have commented it was not just a frost but a hard freeze. It's warmer today but the sun is not shining and the wind is blowing. He would not have sat on the front porch long this morning, smoking....

This old house has a lot of noises when the wind blows cold. I am not sure what all of the noises are.... Sometimes it wakes me up, thinking someone is knocking on the front door. But no, it is just the wind blowing things around. Two nights in a row I woke up and yelled, "Come on in." Not knowing who was knocking, but figuring it must be someone I know.... No one was there... Today I spied a squirrel scratching on the house below the window. At first I figured it was a mouse in the wall...

For the last few days I have done very little. You'd be surprised how little needs to be done around a house when it is only one person to  mess it up. Yesterday I did get the horse up and brush him. His winter coat is thick. Plus I did go pick up Emily in Branson. She spent the night with a friend.  Today, it is noon and I still have on my night gown.

I must light the hot water heater today....Before I take a shower. I turn the hot water heater off and I still have warm water for 3 days. But last night when I took a bath I noticed I had used almost all of the hot water. So today, I will light it...take a shower....do the few dishes I have  dirty....I think there are 3  dirty  bowls in the sink. ...wipe down the counters...then when the heater kicks off I turn off the gas....I am determined to make it through the winter on one tank of propane.... Everyone tells me I will need 2...But I figure if I make a trip out west the end of Jan.....I can make it on one....

I still have the shed to clean...I have not done that chore...Plus I could go to Jr's and do a load of my wash. He may need a little house cleaning and maybe some laundry done.  But I think I will put that off till tomorrow...

The kids are all in school....Fleta is at work....George went to town this morning but he is all ready home....I guess I have procrastinated long enough....Time to get started, since the day is half over...LOL

It is so nice to be home....I made it in around 1;00 PM  ... I dumped my suitcase in the middle of the living room....All dirty clothes...JR has a new washer....I think I will check it out tomorrow!

A beautiful day...a good life....

Yesterday I went to Berryville to the thrift store looking for some sort of a dress for the cruse...I found nothing there...I am not surprised...So I am going to seam up something I have but it is size 20. Contrary to popular belief a 20 is to big for me now..As a matter of fact I tried it on and it needs to be taken in a good 4 inches on each side...LOl   That is a lot but it flowing so I think it will pass.I have not done it yet,...I have Fleta's machine up here so I will do it tomorrow. Shame there is not a Ross Store within 100 miles... I remember when there were half a dozen within 10 miles of my house...

Today I went through some clothes to take with me. I did all of my laundry and some of JR's...Tomorrow I will seam a few things up and press everything.

I am loving having Clayton's front window so clean....every afternoon the sun shines in so bright. I just sit in front of it and let the sun warm my bones....It will be so nice this winter.

I have been reading....I picked up 3 books at the library and I have read them all. So as you can imagine I have not done much else. I think I will go back tomorrow and return these and try to find some more.

I fixed supper for Fleta's crew last night. I made cupcakes for Hannah and Robert...Robert said he had 3 and they were good. I love that boy!

Saturday morning I am driving up to Rhea's.  We will have a great time I am sure...
