The Barefoot Bandit...

When I was at Kristins's last month looking at her new home she told me they looked at a home on Camano Island. She said she was glad they did not buy there. Apparently there was a kid that had been breaking into houses there for years. Camano Island is a very affluent place. The homes average about a half million dollars.

Well there was this kid who was caught when he was 17 years old but for over 2 years he had been breaking into homes on Camano Island. Apparently he would move from home to home while the residents were on vacation or they had these homes as a vacation home. Anyway he would break into these homes and live mostly in the attic as to not call attention to the neighbors by lights being turned on ect. Kris said he would find credit card statements belonging to the people where he was staying and order items off the net or by phone and have them delivered to their home and make himself quiet comfortable their attics.

When he figured the people were about to come home or maybe when he heard them open the front door he would leave and find another vacant home to live in.

He was finally caught because a light was turned on in a house that was supposed to be vacant and the police were notified.

When he was caught he ended up in a minimum security place and he had just escaped about the time Kris was looking to buy a house.

I thought at the time that kid must be pretty sharp to live there for over 2 years and not get caught.

I guess I was right. Apparently he also taught himself to fly a plane by reading and playing video games because he stole at least one plane or maybe two. When they interviewed his mother who has had trouble with the kid since he was 7 years old and started stealing, they asked her what she thought about her son stealing a plane. She said if he did steal it he had broken a sacred rule. he was to never steal a single engine plane because a two engine was much safer and he was to always wear a parachute. That seems a little crass but I would not say bad things about my boy either if he was in trouble with the law.

He was caught after flying to the Bahamas. He is the guy known as the Barefoot Bandit....

Bad seed for sure but you have to admire his moxie and intelligence. Channeled in the right direction, he could have really amounted to something.
Bet there will be a movie.
