It’s 54° outside. Talk about a heat wave. I even went for a walk. I walked down to Fleta‘s to get something. And then I walk to the little pond and back. I only walked 15 minutes total but this is a start I may not ever get over the 15 minutes
Can you believe it my starter finally started growing! This was two hours after I fed it. So I walked down to Fleta's And picked up my bigger jar. Now I have some into jars.
Fleta bought me flour today. I was almost out. So I’ve decided tomorrow I’m going to take some of my sourdough starter then I’m going to add yeast to it and make bread. I wonder if it will still taste a little bit like sourdough. At least I know it will rise. I’m going to cook it in Fleta‘s old red heavy duty pot that has a lid on it. I think it’s called cast aluminum but I’m not for sure it’s really old. I always have parchment paper, but I just happen to be out right now apparently unless it’s down in one of the shelves and I didn’t see it. So I plan on using aluminum foil inside the pan and it said sprinkle a little cornmeal on the bottom so it doesn’t stick and that’s what I’m going to try to do
Kimberley sent me a picture today. She made a whole wheat bread. Yum it looked so good. She also made my favorite strawberry jam .
I got my electric bill today Alt one I’ve ever had. It is $176. It cost a lot to keep the pipes from freezing, The plants warm, and the sourdough starter growing. That is not including that I’ve used propane also. But it hasn’t been too cold in the house, not considering the weather outside.
Kimberley told me today that she made real butter out of some whipped cream sometime ago. I don’t know when exactly and I said yes but that’s so expensive buying real butter is just cheaper anymore. But she had the cream and it was about to go bad. I told her we used to make homemade butter all the time, but we didn’t use a mixer to do it. We put it in a gallon jug with a lid. Mom always let it sour first because it churned so much faster that way. And we would add a couple of ice cubes to it usually and then just shake, shake, shake. I’m sure you remember doing that sisters. I really liked the sour taste of the butter that way . I guess it’s what you get used to. But I’m certainly not going to buy whipping cream and let it go sour and do it. At one time I remember I had an old wooden butter press. I’m not really sure what happened to it.
I have been reading more news than I should lately. So I’m just going to stop. That should not be too hard.
In the next couple of weeks or so, I intend to go see Betty Jean. I have to wait till it stays above freezing because I can’t take a Chance on those pipes. Besides, Laura has some other clothes down there for me and there might be something great in there. There’s probably at least something I could send to the kids in Arizona if it don’t fit me.
It’s a little windy or I would go burn grass around my tomato bed, but with the wind up, it might be a little dangerous.
Bill called me today for a shop update. He had some guys over and they have all the electric in wired and done. Hooray hooray!! He is so proud of that shop and I don’t blame him. It is fantastic. What a great place to be able to work on his cars. And all of his buddies that have helped him get the building up he probably owes a few people by now. But that’s OK. He enjoys helping people. After all, Remember, it makes you feel good to help people. i’ll bet Bill is thinking the same way Kelly does. That is, I feel good enough.
Kimberley’s bread and jam! You can’t see it, but I guarantee her kitchen counters are clean too. She is very organized.
