Little Michael called me last week and told me the best math students from his school, grades 3-5th grades, were given the same math test. I am not sure what this math consisted of but Michael is in 3rd grade and he scored the highest in his school. Not just his grade but the whole school. He walked away with a first prize plaque and 50 bucks from Granny.
Michael is a whiz in math. I have never seen another kid as good in math as he is. When he was in 1st grade and they sent home the 100 problem work sheets he knew the answers as fast as he could write them. I have helped all of my kids and most of the Grand Kids with these sheets. Most kids when they work those sheets say 8+2, 10...3+5, 8...5+4, 9... Many say them out loud but I think all kids at least say them in their head and many have to count on their fingers....Not Michael. He would just take off witting 10, 8, 9...just as fast as he could scribble the number... It makes no difference if it is addition, subtraction, or multiplication and maybe he even does division now, that same way..
YET he is not the type of boy that ever tried to horn in on anyone else's homework. If Kenzie was doing a sheet he was not standing over her saying that is easy it is 8 or whatever...No not that boy. He is never going to do any ones work except just what the Teacher MAKES him do....
So I am sure when they sat that test sheet in front of him he thought, 'Let's get this over with so I can go to recess.' That is apparently not a bad attitude to have...
