Ticks...

I think a lot anymore.....often about useless things...

I had not had a tick bite me in years but while on vacation in AR I had a tick on my ankle...Fleta saw it and thought it was a tick and sure enough it was...It did not have to climb far on me to get a good fat bite....Fleta was looking for something to make it turn loose and I pulled it off, just as I did many times as a kid ...I have had no ill effects, but it brought to mind two other tick bite stories.

I remember when Gilbert was very small, maybe 4 or so his eyelid was really red and sore...We found upon examining his lid a tick had attached its self right in the eye lash line and it was all ready blue...Do you remember that, Sisters?

Back in the mid 70's Mike's Dad and Mom drove to AR to visit Grandma Mark. On the trip back they spent the night in Gallop NM. That night Dad See discovered a tick was latched on to him.. They were so worried this would cause him ill effects (yes I do know about tick fever but that is rare compared to all of the tick bites)..Well, Mom See tried to burn it off...I can not even imagine how that went....Then she tried alcohol to make it turn loose...at least I hope they tried the burning first...Well they could not get it to drop off. Heaven knows who would try to pull it off. The next morning they went to the ER in Gallop and the Doctor there just pulled it off. I remember Mike's Mom being so disgusted with the Doctor that he just 'pulled' it off... No telling how much that cost, but I am sure they had insurance.

I remember the story very well because I thought it was so stupid, but here, years later I am writing about it. Does this tell you anything about my life....

Thanks, now I feel those nasty buggers all over me. How funny it took the Dr. to "pull it off". At least now she knew how to "pull it off" properly.

I have learned a really neat trick this summer about ticks. I have had 4 on so far. The first one I got at the camper, the second one at Feta's and then two more yesterday at the camper.
You put a big glob of a liquid soap, like Dawn or something, on the end of a Q-tip and put it on the tick - it will immediately open up its legs and crawl off. Then I put Neosporen right on the bite - it has really works well.
