School Shopping....

Yesterday, Melissa and I went school shopping for back to school clothes for Kristina's two kids...We were just hitting things that were on sale for this weekend and might be gone by the time they get here in a week.

So we went to Children's place which is a good place to get clothes for the younger kids like Austin but it is hard to find things for Mackenzie and Michael. Missy started picking out clothes for Amanda and don't get me wrong I was planning on getting a few new things for Amanda but I was looking for things for the older ones...

Well, pretty soon Missy had a pile of things all for Amanda and I told her that Amanda did not need that much. Missy said Kris had told her Amanda did not have hardly any clothes and I knew this was not correct. You see, Amanda is only 4 but she is the size Mackenzie was at 5 and at 5 Mackenzie went to Kindergarten and I remember we went school shopping then. Kris had kept all of Mackenzie's clothes so I knew there must be a bunch that Amanda could wear right now...

When I talked to Kris last night she said she had a lot of size 4's and a lot of size 7's and she thought we did not buy Mackenzie any 5's and 6's..I told her that was not correct because when Mackenzie went to Kindergarten she wore size 5 and I started naming off at least a dozen specific things I remembered we bought for her. One of them is the little skirt at the top of the post.

Well Kris could remember them too after I described them and she decided that she must have a tote of clothes in the garage she had not found yet. Kris went out this morning and found a big tote of Kenzie's clothes that fit Amanda now...5's and 6's....Amanda is so happy but Mackenzie hated to see her old clothes go to Amanda...

You see, Mackenzie was always so careful with her clothes. I would wash a lot of Mackenzie's clothes for her and she often told me that this blouse or that dress had a small pencil mark on it and be sure and pre treat it...Amanda marks on her clothes with Sharpie markers....often...and then tells her Mom she needs to be sure and throw that blouse away because it is ruined..

When Kris pulled a white lace blouse out of the tote, and it was one of Mackenzie's favorites, it was more than Mackenzie could bear. Just thinking how it would look after Amanda wore it one time made her tear up and she had to retreat to her room.....But Amanda's happy....She is probably thinking, 'a white canvas to draw on.....'

So Long To Patsy's Friends...

Every morning when I get on my computer I pull up my blog and then go straight to Patsy's blog....I like to read Pats first and then I would go down her list of bloggers that had updated. I would do this throughout the day several times...

Well Pat pulled her blog roll down because it took to long to load up each morning...she thought this was a lot of trouble, which I understand....you see, now after only 2 days, I see it is to much trouble for me to sort through each one of her tags and see who has updated. I will just have to rely on my limited blog roll and let the rest of Pats world pass me by..

This morning I did see Kris had posted a small film on Amanda....Amanda is ready to board that plane and come to Granny's. Missy and I went shopping today and picked up several pieces of clothing for the kids. Now today I will have to start my house cleaning...I am ready and up to the task...

Vegetable Saturday...

Posted by Picasa

We got great vegetables again today...what you see plus a watermelon, cantalope, strawberries, blue berries, and a few other things...

I also made strawberry freezer jam for my kids to have when they are here.

I got this from Marvin King this morning...

I am thankful he could remember my email address.....?

$5.37.

That's what the kid behind the counter at Taco Bueno said to me. I dug into my pocket and pulled out some lint and two dimes and something that used to be a Jolly Rancher. Having already handed the kid a five-spot, I started to head back out to the truck to grab some change when the kid with the Elmo hairdo said the harshest thing anyone has ever said to me.

He said, “It's OK. I'll just give you the senior citizen discount.”

I turned to see who he was talking to and then heard the sound of change hitting the counter in front of me. "Only $4.68" he said cheerfully. I stood there stupefied.

I am 48, not even 50 yet – a mere child!* Senior citizen?

I took my burrito and walked out to the truck wondering what was wrong with Elmo. Was he blind? **As I sat in the truck, my blood began to boil. Old? Me??

I'll show him, I thought. I opened the door and headed back inside. I strode to the counter, and there he was waiting with a smile. Before I could say a word, he held up something and jingled it in front of me, like I could be that easily distracted!

What am I now?**A toddler?

"Dude! Can't get too far without your car keys, eh?"*

I stared with utter disdain at the keys. I began to rationalize in my mind.
Leaving keys behind hardly makes a person elderly! It could happen to anyone!
I turned and headed back to the truck. I slipped the key into the ignition,
but it wouldn't turn. What now? I checked my keys and tried another. Still
nothing. That's when I noticed the purple beads hanging from my rearview mirror.

I had no purple beads hanging from MY rearview mirror.

Then, a few other objects came into focus. The car seat in the back seat.
Happy Meal toys spread all over the floorboard. A partially eaten doughnut
on the dashboard.

Faster than you can say ginkgo biloba, I flew out of the alien vehicle.
Moments later I was speeding out of the parking lot, relieved to finally be
leaving this nightmarish stop in my life.*

That is when I felt it, deep in the bowels of my stomach: hunger! My stomach
growled and churned, and I reached to grab my burrito, only it was nowhere
to be found.

I swung the truck around, gathered my courage, and strode back into the
restaurant one final time. There Elmo stood, draped in youth and black nail
polish. All I could think was - what is the world coming to? All I could
say was, “Did I leave my food and drink in here?”

At this point I was ready to ask a Boy Scout to help me back to my vehicle,
and then go straight home and apply for Social Security benefits.

Elmo had no clue. I walked back out to the truck, and suddenly a young lad
came up and tugged on my jeans to get my attention. He was holding up a
drink and a bag. His mother explained, "I think you left this in my truck by
mistake." I took the food and drink from the little boy and sheepishly apologized.

She offered these kind words: "It's OK. My grandfather does stuff like this
all the time."

All of this is to explain how I got a ticket doing 85 in a 40. Yes, I was
racing some punk kid in a Toyota Prius. And no, I told the officer, I'm not
too old to be driving this fast.*

As I walked in the front door, Rhea met me halfway down the hall. I
handed her a bag of cold food and a $300 speeding ticket. I promptly sat in
my rocking chair and covered up my legs with a blanky.

The good news was I had successfully found my way home.
