Vetrans Day..

Total number of U.S. soldiers deployed to Vietnam536,100
Total number of U.S. casualties in the Vietnam War 58,220
Total number of U.S. soldiers wounded in the Vietnam War303,644
I pulled up these stats on the Vietnam war. This was the war of my age group. Daddy served in WW11 'The Big one' as Archie Bunker called it.  That was a bad war but there was a purpose to it.  The Vietnam conflict...seemed so senseless to me. Over half the soldiers sent over there were wounded and over 10% died.  I remember Daddy watching the news during that time and he hated that war. This may have been the only time in his life he was glad he had 3 girls at home instead of 3 boys! If Daddy would have been the type of person to publically protest he would have been out carrying a sign. But instead he protested from the living room. I guess it was productive because he did not raise one kid in favor of going to war. Out of all of us truly  George was the most affected by the war. He lost a brother there and served 3 terms in Nam. I can not imagine what he must have lived with, or what still haunts him today. The boys that went there were so young. Such a loss and such a shame.

Worse War for our country was the Civil War. but not of our time of course. Grandpa Cooper, Grandpa Powell, Grandpas Gaddy, on and on...
our Grandpa John Powell lies in a grave somewhere his father was told to head home afoot from Little Rock, AR. Grandpa Cooper was trying to kill Grandpa Powell.

George Aday--thank you for your service.
