Can You Bake an Apple Pie Kenzie Girl, Kenzie Girl?

YES you can..

Kenzie has been baking, She made 2 pumpkin pies and this lovely apple pie yesterday. She used my recipies... Kris said they were delicious!

Kenzie asked her mom how old she was when she first started cooking with Granny..

I will tell you Kenzie..

At 8 months old I had you sit on the counter and help me cook. One of the first things you did was crack the eggs. At that time I always cracked an egg with one hand and you had watched me many times. So at 8 months old you whacked the egg on the side of the bowl and then CRUSHED it in one hand. At that point I showed you how to crack an egg using 2 hands. And I did it that way many times while you watched me. We made a lot of noodles because It took a dozen eggs. You got very good at cracking the eggs and by 1 year old you could crack an egg and not get any shell in the bowl.

When you were 2 years old you could crack an egg with 1 hand and not get the shell in the bowl. That is something many adults can not do.

At 3 years old you did all of the mixing and measuring for baking and I watched and instructed. You had to have help rolling out the dough for cinnamon rolls because you could not get it thin enough. You did all of this mixing standing on the green chair at my kitchen island. Remember the chair?   After I rolled out the dough you could add the filling for the cinnamon rolls and roll them up and even slice them We made each slice the width of 3 of your  little fingers.  At first you would place your fingers on the roll and made an indent in the dough  but soon you just guessed at the width. Remember we ALWAYS ate the ends!

You loved making brownies because you liked licking the bowl. You always took some of anything we made home to Michael and Mom and dad.

Remember when we made angel food cakes , we always made them the same day we made noodles...The yokes were for the noodles and the whites were for an angel food cake. You cracked each egg into a separate small bowl and we fished out the yoke and added that to one bowl and the white to another bowl.  We had to use 12 eggs.

Then when the angel food cake was done we turned it upside down on a glass pop bottle and as soon as it was cool we picked the entire bottom crust off while it was hanging upside down,,, and we ate it all. It is the best part,

After we took the cake out of the pan we would slice off a piece and squeeze the cake back together. You thought it was so funny because no one could tell we had eaten any. Until finally we had eaten so much, and squeezed it back together so much there was no center hole! LOL

Remember making home made doughnuts. It always made so many you would take them to the neighbors on a paper plate and give them 6 or so. The grease was so hot I would not let you put the doughnuts in or turn them but you always rolled them out and cut them ...saving the holes...(The best part) and after they were fried you rolled them in the powder sugar thin frosting we made. You were about 5 when we made doughnuts.

As a good a cook as you were I never let you in the kitchen by yourself. That is because I enjoyed being with you so much..

Oh yes and remember the hundreds of Truffles we made...It took 4 cake mixes...We would dip those balls all day sometimes...There were always a lot of those sent home to your daddy.

Oh Kenzie, you are my Girl...Stay sweet...
