I guess this is how they cut a tall tree when it is too rotten to climb and top...They climb a good tree that is close to the one they want to cut down. They take a rope from the sturdy tree and throw high around the dead tree and bring the rope from the good tree down to the ground and tie it off or hold it. (the rope you see in the 1st picture is when the tree is on the ground.) Then the man cut down the rotten tree and it swung and hung right over by the good tree. The guy then cut a piece off the bottom of the rotten tree as high as he could reach. The rope holder lowered the tree about 6 more feet and the guy with the saw cut another 6 feet off the bottom. After doing this for a few times it was short enough to lay down without hitting anything. In the last picture you can see him untieing his rope and the 4 pieces he cut off the bottom before he laid it down. This is not a job I would want to have.
