I have not mentioned this on my blog but I have had a problem with my big toe on my left foot. About 2 or 3 months ago my toe got sore and red about an half inch below the nail bed. I put antibiotic ointment on it for weeks and wrapped it tightly in a band aid each day for almost a month. It started to feel a little better but then I noticed there was a space at the bottom of the nail bed where the nail was lifting from the toe. So I figured I was going to loose my nail. Which I have done, a little at a time. Since taking Chemo all of my nails have been a mess.
Well 2 days I cut off a little more of the toe nail that had turned white and died. Last night Kenzie looked at my toe and wanted to get some gloves and doctor it for me. I told her that it was fine. It did hurt just a tad....Well this morning it is BIG, bigger than usual, red, and sore....I have an alcohol wrap around it right now but I am going to have to get some antibiotic ointment on it and a tight band aid again...I may have to break down and go to the Doc...I will not post a picture of it because it even makes me queasy to look at it...OUCH...

I think it is those NEW shoes you are wearing?
Don't know what antibiotic ointment you're putting on it, but did you know that a lot of people are allergic to Neosporin? My sister and I both used it for years with no problems, and then when we were in our 50s, the allergic reactions began. At first, independently, we thought our minor injuries had become infected, but it turned out to be the ointment.
Google "Neosporin allergy" and see what you find. One site I just looked at said to see the doctor if redness and swelling develop.
And if you're not using Neosporin, check it out anyway; most of these ointments use similar ingredients. I think it's the neomycin that's usually the culprit.
Hope you'll go to the doctor. You've been through too much to let a toe make you sick.
