AZ Photo Radar Cameras...

will be taken down soon...Seems they are not generating as much money as the state hoped it would. I have always thought they should be against the law.

A few years ago when Gov. Jan Brewer signed the contract with (whoever the company was) she made the mistake and said, 'this will generate a great deal of money.' This statement was hard to retract into saying, ' these cameras will save a lot of lives. ' This always stuck in the public craws, especially since we always knew they put them up to just generate money.

The problem with the cameras was they send you a ticket in the mail. They have to make sure you get it. If you do not respond they send a process server to your house to present you with another ticket. These process servers are outsourced and are paid 25 bucks to attempt to serve you. They have to try 3 times. With the price of gas I know they do not try very hard. If they do get you served then the ticket which is about 180 bucks cost you 25 more dollars. Not a bad risk to take for only 25 more bucks. Many people they can not get served. After 3 months they will drop the ticket.

Last year they even passed a new law that camera tickets will not count against your insurance. Oh yeah, hoping it would instill more people to just pay up. That did not work either.

Many of their cameras are constantly being vandalized. Last year a guy sitting in one of the photo radar vans along the side of the road was shot and killed. Since then they leave the vans sitting there empty. In general, people hate them.
