Lovetta Powell...

I pulled up the calendar on the computer this morning because the room is still dark and I can't see the one on the wall. I noticed John Powell is having a birthday but Lovetta would be having one tomorrow.

For all of the years Floyd and Lovetta lived down the road from us I remember very little about them both.

I remember Lovetta drove a big coral and white car , it may have had fins. I suppose it was a late 50's model and it was not a Chevy. I am not sure what it was. I don't think it was a Ford but Clayton would know...If he knew how to comment on our blogs, he could tell me! I thought it was the prettiest color and I am sure it was the only one in GF that was that color. I remember her stopping by the house sometimes to see if Mama needed anything from town. In the later year, the 70's, I remember Mama talking to her and Francis a lot on the phone. By that I mean daily.

We have a few pictures of Sharon Kay and Geraldine up at our house, but not very many. I remember once getting to go to Lovetta's house and going in Sharon Kay's room and she had a dozen or so dolls hung on the wall. I must have been 6 or so that would make her about 12. I don't think she played with them anymore. That is why they hung on the wall. I do remember her getting them down and letting me hold them. I also remember Lovetta's house was very clean and nice, showroom, is what I call it now. I do not remember her giving me anything to eat, and like Patsy I probably would have remembered that...Burley Norton always gave me cookies, thumbprint jam cookies.. Some things are just important to Patsy and me.

The only other time I remember going down there was once Daddy had to go see Floyd about something and I went along. Daddy stayed outside and I went inside. Geraldine was practicing typing, I think she was a SR. I was so impressed they had a typewriter.

I do remember riding the bus with the girls. It seems they always wore full skirts with lots of can-cans, and saddle shoes...

I remember riding Cocoa by their house many times and their dogs chasing me. They has one Shepard that was black. I thought they were mean dogs..

One thing we can't fault Lovetta about was she always took good care of those Girls and Floyd. She always stood up for him. I remember after Grandma Powell's Funeral Floyd was so distraught he could not come by the house with all of the other relatives and Lovetta came in and said Floyd wanted the mantle clock. I doubt if Lovetta was the one that wanted the clock bad enough to come into a whole group of Powell's demanding it, if Floyd hadn't been the one who wanted it....BTW she did not leave with the clock. My daddy did not have it or she would have gotten it.

I am sure her Girls miss her terrible.

Thanks for letting me see the toys...they are the best gifts.

Fleta and I played with Sharon and Jeraldean. I remember Lovetta making home made ice cream and it was good. Other times she gave us stuff to eat. When I went by at Green Forest after they moved. She was so glad to visit. Very friendly. I think a lot of the reserve was because of Floyd, but do not really know.

I guess Lovetta wore out taking care of Floyd. She went first.

Lets see...my Mom did not have the mantle clock, but I do know who has it.
