Just getting daylight...

I went out back to see if the Bumble Bee was buzzing around and I did not see him...
For the last 2 months we have had a big black Bumble Bee zooming around. Last week I sprayed this tree with my bug killer till it was dripping wet. I still had the bee.
A little after Easter Missy looked at the tree where the Bee lands and disappears and she saw a bored hole. I thought at the time this is not just a Bumble Bee.
Yesterday, I got on the net to see how to kill a Bumble Bee. There I found that Carpenter Bees look almost like a Bumble bee but nest in lumber.
Missy told me she had seen holes bored in My Mimosa tree and so I went out to look. There I found 2 holes.
The article said that Carpenter Bees often nest together. It said the males are the ones doing the zooming and they can not sting. only the female can sting.
Apparently the female is in the hole most of the time, drilling holes, laying larva, covering up the hole and laying more larva.

The net said these tunnels they drill can be anywhere from 6 inches to 4 feet long. They said the easiest way to kill them is seal off the hole with caulk or wood pudy.
The article said they will not try to drill through it once they realize they are trapped. So I caulked up the holes.
I have not seen a bee since I did it. The 1st picture is on the underneath side of the dead limb on my Mimosa tree. That is where the 2 holes were. The next picture is of the tree and you can see the white where I caulked.

Hopefully this will get rid of the bees..

Oh yes, the Internet also took me to a page where I could buy a kit of stuff to kill them. It sold for 290 bucks...
