My Grand Boy, Austin had his Birthday party yesterday...That is his Mama in the upper right hand corner... He had a Great Birthday..He will be 7 on the 15th..
I always tell My Grand Kids stories about when I was a kid....Two weeks Austin was complaining about having to share one bathroom with his Dad and Kimmie in their house up north..So I told Austin the 'Out house story.'
This is how we were so poor we did not have running water and we had what was called an out house...I then had to explain what an out house was and how Daddy built it...I went into great details...All was true....
I told him how sometimes there would be a snake in the hole or one of Clayton's setting hens so I would be afraid to go in there..On and on...
Austin's eyes were getting bigger and bigger..
Then I got to the part about the 'Sears and Roebuck's' catalogue....Which I had to explain what that was and how we used it for toilet paper..He could not believe all of this..
Well, this week I went into Mikes large walk in closet where we keep all of the extra toilet paper. There were 6 rolls left in the large Northern bag . I checked Mike's Bathroom and he still had 3 rolls stacked up in the corner, where he keeps his spares...I keep 3 extra rolls in each of the other two bathrooms...In Kenzie's bath I keep them in the bottom drawer ans in my bath I keep them on the bottom shelf in the bathroom closet...We were out of spares in each of the two Baths..
So I grabbed the large TP bag and went walking through Mike's bedroom. Of course Mike noticed I was taking all of the TP..He is very TIGHT!!! He said, "is that the last of the TP?' I told him yes and he said, "well, we are going..." I cut him off right there and said 'Don't even try to go there!' walked out, closed the door and left him talking, now to himself...
Mike buys, reads, and collects, thousands of trashy romance novels and the brown cheap paper would have made good TP when I was a kid..I thought if he persists on this 'using to much TP kick' I will get one of his Nora Roberts books and tear a few pages out and lay it out in the front bathroom which he uses every day as soon as he gets home from work because he can not make it all of the way back to his bathroom..
Then I had to laugh thinking of Austin coming over and seeing those brown pages in the bathroom and him asking, 'Granny, what is this?' If I were to tell him he would say...'I'm talking to Grandpa about this.' And he would be hot footing it to Mike's bedroom clicking those heals down hard with each step he took just like I used to walk....
Now Winnie, I assure you we will have TP in this house longer than we will be buying $5, Nora Roberts romance books at Wal Mart...But it did make me chuckle just thinking about Austin seeing book pages in the Bathroom to wipe with...
TP...One more little thing I am thankful for today...

We were so poor. It caused us to strive...but always at Christmas I remember the poor most.
