Brother's Black Friday Shopping Trip....

I spoke to Brother this morning on the phone and since he does not blog I will tell you his story as he told it to me.

On Thanksgiving Day he went down to Marshall to have dinner with Kathy’s kids. Apparently Kathy’s Daughter had got a paper and was looking through the Black Friday adds. Wal Mart had a certain flat screen TV that she wanted for her Daughter (Kathy’s Grand Daughter) to use in her dorm but she had to work that day and could not make it to Wal Mart. Brother being the nice guy he is said, ‘Oh, I will go get that for you.’ He figured, drive over to Berryville, go to Wal Mart, pick up a TV, how bad can that be….

My Melissa who has been a Black Friday shopper for YEARS can tell you that shopping on Black Friday is a full contact sport and not for the faint of heart. Anyone that has ever shopped Black Friday knows that a novas Black Friday shopper needs to start out at a JC Penny’s or a Sears store the first year and work up to a Wal Mart or Toys-R-Us.

So brother gets up Friday morning thinking he will make a pot of coffee and take him a cup and amble over to Wal Mart and pick up a TV. When he got up he was surprised Kathy was up and dressed with the coffee all ready made. She wanted to go along….Now between you and me I think she knew how it would be and when Clayton saw the parking lot at Wal Mart he would turn around and go home…

Clayton said when he got to Wal Mart he liked to never found a spot to park and he was surprised the Wal Mart doors were all ready open and it was not even 5:00 yet….Apparently he did not give much attention to Wal Marts law suit a few years where a man got trampled to death and now they leave the stores open to avoid that herd of people… He also was surprised that there were police there and two ambulances there…

So Brother gets into the store and he said 'there was not room to walk.' He finally makes it back to electronics waits in line only to find out the line for the TV’s is over in the automotive department…makes since to me…The store clerk told him she thought that there were all ready more people in line than they had TV’s…

Brother makes it to Automotive. He said, ‘By now I have been hit and run over a half a dozen times by old people with canes and walkers and such.’ If the old people were running him over this should have been a clue to him he was in over his head…

When he got over to automotive he said, ’You should have seen the line!’…Sure enough there were already more people waiting than they had TV’s. He told Kathy he was going to the truck.

The trip was not a total loss. Apparently our Cousin Sharon was checking and he stopped and had a nice chat with her. Clayton said they probably only had three TV’s…I could have told him if they had three and Missy had wonted one she would have gotten one…

Clayton said, ‘This was a once in a lifetime experience!’ I do not think he meant everyone should experience it at least once. I think he meant he will never do it again. He is truly a novice, naive, Black Friday shopper. He probably asked Santa Clause for a ‘Red Ryder’ BB gun not realizing he could shoot his eye out with it….

LOL, yes we went ONE TIME ONLY, wanted to get this sewing machine for my Mother for Christmas. Well forget it, I to think they probably had three in the store, and one was sitting in a shopping cart, and the person working that department was saying how she should get one and mail it to her sister. I think the one in the cart wasn't for a shopper, I think it was for her, which I don't think should be allowed. Anyway went back a week later and found a good deal on one a lot nicer. That was the one and only time we ever tried something like that. We were amazed, how some shoppers were using two and three carts, by having a kid push one and they had them loaded with big items. There's nothing I want that bad to ever go again. LOL Your brother was brave.
