in AZ as of Wednesday, more than 13,100 county voters had cast early ballots in person, Reed said. About 486,000 early votes, including mail-in ballots, have been cast among the 861,000-plus early ballots requested.
"We have a very unusual race going on," Reed said. "This is the first year in 54 years where we don't have an incumbent president and vice president on the ballot. There is also a senior citizen, an African-American and a woman."
Early voting is offered in at least 34 states and the District of Columbia and has been popular across the country. Florida's governor signed an executive order Tuesday extending early-voting hours.
More than 15 million voters nationwide have already cast ballots, according to statistics from Michael P. McDonald, a political scientist at George Mason University. About a third of voters are expected to vote early this year, up from 22 percent in the past presidential
