School shopping was always a fun time for me and the kids. I really enjoyed going out with them for a whole day and getting new outfits and all of the back packs and supplies. We would have lunch out and make a full day of it. I have to admit my girls liked it a lot better than Billy. It was about 1998 & Bill was in high school, the girls were all ready living away from home and attending college. This particular morning I went into Bills room, shook him awake and announced, ‘get up because we are going school shopping.’
He asked what kind of school shopping and I said it was for supplies. We’ll get a new Trapper Keeper and back pack and stock up on pens and paper, things like that. Then Bill replied, “I don’t need any notebooks, paper, or pens. I still have all of my stuff from last year sitting in the closet. I never used any of them last year!”
He was not nearly as much fun as the girls….

I believe it was that same year Melissa was starting ASU. This morning she went to the college bookstore and bought her books and supplies. She called me when she got back to the dorm and informed me going school supply shopping was not nearly as much fun as it used to be when I paid for everything!
On the 21st Mackenzie and I will go school shopping. She is very excited about it and has started her list. Yes sir ree...we will have a big time!

Books for College are now way over $500 a sememster...imagine...it would not be fun. I have kids from Tech that take classes without a book..try to borrow a friends as it is too expensive to buy them.
Good old days are gone.
Yeah I can agree with that.. I remember going back to school shopping with my grandmother and it was so great because she lived far so she could never say no to anything we wanted... We even got toys in are back to school shoppin trips. I love doing it now for my kids makes me feel like a true mom now.. ha ha.. And I can honestly say I wish I still had grandma buying my supplies its costing me as much as one full semester at a community college just for books at ASU... 750 is alot to spend on books most bookstores will not take back after this semester... ughh!!! Oh well like they say education is not free.. Glad you get to go see the others real soon...
